Farmer Christoffel Stoman ran over the little boy, breaking both of his legs on Friday last week after accusing him of stealing an orange from his farm.
Local activists say they will be protesting when Stoman applies for bail on Monday.
They claim this is not the first time he has committed such a crime.
The family of 6-year-old Khwezi Jantjies from Lutzville on the West Coast is calling for justice after a farmer, Christoffel Stoman, allegedly ran over the child, breaking both of his legs.
The incident occurred last Friday when Stoman accused Khwezi of stealing an orange from his farm.
Local activists have announced plans to protest when Stoman applies for bail on Monday, claiming that this is not the first time he has been involved in such incidents.
Magdalena Jantjies, Khwezi's mother, expressed her gratitude that her son is alive after the traumatic event.
She stated that she had no prior relationship with Stoman, and despite his age, the 70-year-old farmer showed no remorse or offered any assistance following the accident. Despite his injuries, she reported that her son is in good spirits.
Community activist Billy Claasen is urging lawmakers to take a strong stance against farmers committing crimes. Khwezi is scheduled to undergo surgery at the Paarl Provincial Hospital on Wednesday.
Stoman is set to appear in the Vredendal Magistrate’s Court on Monday for his bail application, with the state planning to oppose bail due to the serious nature of the charges.
ATM Demands Justice for Khwezi Jantjies and Calls for Expropriation Without Compensation of Mr. Stoman's Farm.
