Tensions at the CPUT Cape Town campus as private security clashes with students protesting an accommodation crisis

Post by News »

Scores of students—many from outside the province—have been left homeless and desperate, with some resorting to sleeping on the floors of campus buildings due to a lack of housing options.

A number of students at CPUT have been left without accommodation, leading to growing frustration and protests as they demand to be placed in university residences.

Some students report having spent weeks sleeping on the floor, while others, particularly first-year students who were not accepted into residence, are queuing in hopes of securing a place.

Students claim that they are not allowed to enter the campus with their bags and are forced to leave their belongings outside. Many of those affected say they have been without proper accommodation for up to three weeks.
