A ninteen (19) year old female who reported being raped by her boyfriends cousin was offered cash by the suspects family in an attempt to discourage her from registering a criminal case.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received the call from residents in the area who found that a mob of approx. thirty (30) people had surrounded a female and were intimidating her.
Reaction Officers responded to the scene in Cottonlands - KZN at 09:46 (Saturday) and interviewed a female complainant.
The woman informed a female Reaction Officer that she had been drinking alcohol and opted to stay over at her boyfriend's home.
Her boyfriend then left the room in the morning and she awoke to find his twenty one (21) year old cousin raping her.
The woman added that she screamed for assistance and a crowed gathered. When they were informed of the rape, the immediate family of the suspect offered her cash as compensation.
The suspects father repeatedly approached her with the cash offer & became violent when she declined. The suspect fled the scene prior to arrival of First Responders.
Fearing for her safety, Reaction Officers removed the female from the area.
