Mpumalanga, South Africa - October 17, 2024
A suspect has been apprehended in Mpumalanga for allegedly possessing stolen meat valued at approximately two cows, along with goat meat concealed inside packs of corn snacks.
THE BUST
Police and livestock theft unit officials conducted a raid, recovering:
1. Beef valued at around R20,000 (equivalent to two cows)
2. Goat meat hidden inside corn snack packets
3. Other suspected stolen livestock products
INVESTIGATION
Authorities are investigating the source of the stolen meat and potential links to organized livestock theft syndicates.
COMMUNITY REACTION
Local farmers and residents welcomed the arrest, citing concerns about rising livestock theft in the area.
"This sends a strong message to would-be thieves," said a local farmer.
POLICE COMMENT
"We will continue to work tirelessly to combat livestock theft and ensure those responsible face justice," said Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson, Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe.
